1Password for Agents: Let AI Log In Without Seeing Your Password
In short
- 1Password launched 1Password for Agents on October 22, 2026 – AI agents can sign in to your accounts without ever seeing or storing your password.
- Same day, 1Password announced it passed $500 million in annual recurring revenue.
- Included in all 1Password Individual and Family plans – no extra fee to give your agents safe logins.
The biggest blocker for AI agents isn’t intelligence. It’s trust. Would you paste your supplier portal password into a chatbot? You shouldn’t. 1Password just shipped the fix: the agent gets the login, but never the password.
What happened
On October 22, 1Password announced 1Password for Agents – a layer between your personal AI agent and your vault. How does it work? When the agent hits a sign-in form, it proves its identity to 1Password with a unique digital key. You see which login it wants and why. You approve or deny on your own device. Then 1Password fills the form directly. The agent only learns that access was granted.
It doesn’t open your whole vault either. Each request is for one task, and you decide. Partners include Meta’s Muse, Anthropic’s Claude Duet, OpenAI (ChatGPT Work and dots), SpaceXSI’s Grok Bot and Town, plus Browserbase, Browser Use, Perplexity and Ramp. Muse and Grok Bot are rolling out first; others are “coming soon” with a waitlist.
The business behind it is strong: 1Password passed $500 million ARR, with net new ARR up about 60% through the first three quarters of its FY26, and more than 200,000 businesses as customers.
How to automate this safely
- Stop pasting passwords into agents. Today. Change any password you already shared with a bot.
- Get the logins into 1Password. Supplier portals, shipping accounts, ad platforms – everything an agent might need. Turn on two-factor where you can.
- Connect a supported agent or join the waitlist for yours on the 1Password for Agents page.
- Start with low-risk, repetitive jobs. Download last month’s invoices from 10 supplier portals. Pull tracking numbers. Check ad spend.
- Read every approval prompt. If the agent asks for a login that has nothing to do with the task – deny.
Do the math: logging into 10 supplier portals every month to download invoices takes about 10 minutes each – 100 minutes. Value your time at €30/hour and that’s €50 a month, €600 a year, of pure clicking. Hand it to an agent and approve 10 logins from your phone in under a minute. The 1Password feature itself costs nothing extra on Individual and Family plans.
What it means
Every big lab is building agents that act inside your accounts. None of them want to be the company that leaked your bank login. So the password manager becomes the gatekeeper for all of them. That’s why Meta, OpenAI and Anthropic all signed up – and why 1Password’s growth is accelerating, not slowing.
Ivan’s Take
This is the missing piece for real automation. Agents were smart enough, but giving them passwords was a risk I wouldn’t take for my businesses. Approve-on-your-phone, password never exposed – that’s the right model. If you already pay for 1Password, turn it on the day your agent is supported.
