Loom “Record for Agent”: Show the Task Once, Let AI Do It

In short

  • Loom launched “Record for agent”: record your screen, talk, and Loom turns it into instructions an AI agent can execute.
  • Works with Rovo, Claude, Cursor and others; can also create a Jira task for an agent.
  • Open beta on Business + AI ($24/user/month) and Enterprise plans.

Stop writing prompts. Show the task. Loom just made the most natural way to explain work – “let me show you” – work for AI agents too. A two-minute recording becomes a ready set of instructions.

What happened

On October 22, Atlassian’s Loom launched Record for agent, together with a rebuilt Loom for Mac and Loom tools inside Atlassian MCP.

How does it work? You start a recording in the Generate tab, share your screen and narrate what you want done. Loom captures three things: your spoken instructions, screenshots of the elements you clicked, and the links you opened. Then it packs everything into a structured action plan an agent can follow.

From there you send it straight to an agent – Atlassian’s Rovo or a third-party one like Claude or Cursor – or turn it into a Jira work item assigned to an agent. On the new Mac app you can pin an exact button with a Selection tool and circle things with a Magic pen.

The MCP part matters too. Agents like Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Codex and Rovo can now pull a Loom’s transcript, metadata and action items directly, within your existing permissions.

How much does it cost? Record for agent is in open beta for Business + AI ($24/user/month, up to 17% less billed yearly) and Enterprise. There’s a 14-day free trial. The free Starter plan doesn’t get it.

How to use it

  • Website changes. Click through your store, say “this button should be orange, move this banner here” – hand it to a coding agent.
  • Reports. Walk through three dashboards and ask for a weekly summary.
  • Repetitive admin. Show once how you update a product listing, let the agent do the next fifty.
  • Course corrections. A ten-second “not that button, this one” Loom instead of a long message.

Tip from Loom: record at least 30 seconds – short clips give the agent too little context.

Do the math: say writing a clear, detailed prompt with screenshots takes you 20 minutes, while recording takes 2. Ten handoffs a week = 3 hours saved weekly, about 12 hours a month. At €25/hour (our assumption for your time) that’s €300/month, €3,600/year – against $24/month, roughly €21, for the plan.

What it means

The biggest bottleneck with agents isn’t the model. It’s explaining the task. Typing is slow, screenshots lose the click path, and every misunderstanding costs another round. Video fixes that.

Expect every screen recorder to copy this. For non-technical owners, it’s the shortest road to delegating real work to AI.

Ivan’s Take

This is how I’d want to hand off work at GiantParts – show the change on screen once, let the agent repeat it. The idea is excellent. The price isn’t: locking it behind the $24 AI tier and leaving free users out keeps it away from the solo founders who need it most. If you already pay for Loom, use it today.
