Firefox Now Watches Prices and Job Posts for You – Free
In short
- Mozilla added two features to Firefox Smart Window: form filling from your open tabs and a /watch command that tracks pages for you.
- /watch monitors up to 5 pages per task, with up to 15 active tasks. Price drops, job listings, restocks.
- It costs nothing. It replaces paid price-tracker subscriptions, but it is beta, US and Canada only, English only.
You refresh the same product page every morning. Waiting for a sale. Waiting for a job post. That is a robot’s job. Mozilla just gave Firefox that robot, and it is free.
What happened
On October 27, Mozilla announced two additions to Smart Window, its opt-in AI browsing mode.
First, form filling. Pick the tabs you want Firefox to read, open a form with at least four text fields, and it suggests entries from those pages. Think work history or a professional bio. You can edit everything, and it never submits the form for you. Saved autofill values stay on your device. The content of the tabs you select goes to Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite. Text fields only.
Second, page watching. Type /watch in the Smart Window chat and describe what you are waiting for: a sale, a matching job listing. Firefox checks up to five pages per task, daily or weekly. Matches show up under the Tasks button and, if you enable it, as desktop notifications. You can run 15 tasks at once. A task pauses after 60 days without a match and stops after 90. The watching runs on Alibaba’s Qwen model.
How to use it
Three setups worth trying:
- Supplier prices. Watch five supplier pages for a price drop on parts you reorder.
- Competitor pages. Get a ping when a rival changes a price or launches a plan.
- Hiring and freelancing. Watch job boards for the exact role or gig you want, and let form filling do the first draft of your application.
How much does it cost? Nothing. Smart Window is in beta and Mozilla’s post mentions no price.
Do the math: I assume a paid price tracker at €5 a month. That is my assumption, not a quoted price. €5 × 12 = €60 a year. Firefox /watch: €0. Fifteen tasks at five pages each is up to 75 pages watched without paying a cent.
The catch
Be realistic. Right now it is beta, on desktop, in English, for users in the US and Canada. Mozilla says more markets come in the coming months. Watching only runs while Firefox is open, so a closed laptop means no checks. A serious monitoring job still needs a server-side tool. This is for personal and small-team use.
What it means
The browser is becoming the agent. Small trackers that charge a monthly fee for one trick lose their reason to exist once Chrome, Firefox and Opera ship the same trick for free. Who wins? Anyone who watches prices for a living. Who loses? The paid single-purpose trackers.
Ivan’s Take
Worth it, if you are in the US or Canada. I would set up /watch on supplier pages tomorrow. Outside those countries, wait. It only runs with Firefox open, so I would not trust it with anything critical.
